A NEW scheme that recognises people who do their bit to save the planet is to be launched at the Dunster Show.
West Somerset MP Ian Liddell-Grainger is to launch a ground-breaking Eco-Hero' as part of Somerset Wildlife Trust's bid to get more people thinking about the environment.
John Dixon, chairman of trust's West Somerset group, said: "We want local members to nominate any local individual or group that appears to be doing something to save the planet so we can recognise their efforts publicly.
"There are no rules. This is not a competition. We simply want to know about people who are making an effort and we also hope to share the best ideas and pass them on for others to copy.
"We want to show that many people are already doing something at a personal level and that their combined contribution to reducing waste and pollution is quite significant."
Somerset Wildlife Trust is the county's leading environmental voluntary body, with more than 19,000 members.
The charity owns or manages around 80 nature reserves all over the county.
The show takes place on Friday, August 17 with the official launch of Eco-Heroes' taking place at 12noon at the trust's stand.
