MINEHEAD lifeboat station is opening its doors to the public on Sunday to give people an insight into the work of the town's volunteer lifeboat crews.
Both inshore lifeboats will be launched at around 11am and will take part in a mock rescue in the Minehead bay.
It is also planned that an RAF search and rescue helicopter from RAF Chivenor will exercise with the crews subject to operational commitments.
The listed RNLI boathouse has been a prominent feature on the West Somerset shoreline since 1901and visitors will have the opportunity to view an excellent collection of photographs and memorabilia. There will also be competitions and free giveaways.
Volunteer senior helmsman Phil Sanderson said: "While the style of lifeboat has changed dramatically over the past 100 years the spirit and dedication of the volunteer crews is as strong as ever.
"Our open days are a great occasion and we are always keen to welcome visitors young and old alike to the station. The open day gives us an opportunity to give people an insight into the work we do"
The open day takes place on Sunday, August 19, between 10am and 4pm.
