A COMMUNITY transport service in the Wiveliscombe area has scooped a top awarded after beating off stiff competition.
Wivey Link won the West Country Regional Award for Voluntary Endeavour and is one of eight projects going through to the national finals in November.
The scheme, which was one of 1,500 contestants, serves Wiveliscombe and the surrounding 26 parishes thanks to 23 volunteer drivers.
Passengers can dial-a-ride by calling 01984-624666 before 11am the day before their journey.
Wivey Link spokeswoman Linda Featherstone, said: "It's wonderful that our drivers have been recognised in this way.
"They are the great unsung heroes of the service, driving three cars daily.
"They provide an essential link for those in rural isolation or without access to transport for whatever reason.
"Without our volunteer drivers there would be no Wivey Link - they are unfailingly kind and helpful and give their time unstintingly."
