SOMERSET County Council is hosting school admission seminars for parents and carers of children due to start or transfer school in September next year.
The events aim to introduce the revised school place application process and explain the changes to admission arrangements.
There will be a special focus on the school place application process for September 2008 admissions to ensure that parents and carers are suitably informed to make an on time' application for a place at a school of their choice.
Local school admission arrangements have been significantly revised in response to a new National Admissions Code of Practice.
The code lays down clear boundaries to ensure that admission arrangements do not disadvantage children from particular social or racial groups, or those with a disability or special educational needs.
The code also makes the admission system more straightforward, transparent and easier to understand for parents.
The seminars are at Danesfield Middle School, Williton, from 6.30-8pm on Monday, September 10; BCC Huntworth, Bridgwater, Tuesday, September 11; Westland Leisure Complex, Yeovil, Wednesday, September 12; Frome Community College, Frome, Thursday, September 13; Wellsprings Leisure Centre, Taunton, Friday, September 14.
All seminars run from 6.30-8pm.
To register your interest and provisional attendance at one of the seminars, contact Somerset County Council on 01823-356612 or e-mail edscourses@somerset.gov.uk
