THE Taunton Castle Probus Club met for their monthly meeting on Wednesday the 8th August at their usual venue. The President Tony Vickery extended a warm welcome to all members with a special welcome to John Paul, President of the Wellington Probus Club. The President then said he was delighted to introduce two new members, Peter Comrie and Jon Pedre.

The president introduced the speaker for today, Carolynn Jureidini, who is Volunteer Project Manager of the Somerset Wildlife Trust. The Trust was founded in 1964, the guest speaker at the inaugural meeting being David Attenborough, and at present the trust occupies Tonedale Mill in Wellington. The Wildlife Trust is the countries leading environmental charity with 19,000 members, 50 staff and over 500 volunteers who manage 80 nature reserves covering 4,200 acres in the county. Somerset has one of the highest levels of biodiversity in the UK and Carolynn covered in detail the special groups of interest, Badger/Bat and Butterfly to name but a few, with a special interest in the Dormouse. There are 47 Wildlife Trusts in the UK and 2,200 reserves with the object of protecting and preserving wildlife, children playing a big part in the programme.

After a very comprehensive question and answer session a vote of thanks was given by Bill Huddy.

The winner of the dress down competition chosen by Carolynn, was Bob Town for his sartorial elegance.
