THE speaker of the August meeting of the Minehead Townswomen's Guild was Christine Seymour who was welcomed by chairman, Janet Harris.
Christine spoke about how she became a practice nurse. She has been nursing for 40 years, almost 25 years as a practice nurse. She trained at Westminster Hospital and said how training has changed over the years.
She moved to Minehead in 1980 and became the first practice nurse for Harley House surgery. Her job has seen many changes including the introduction of computers.
Amongst other things Christine deals with diets, pre-natal care, well man and well woman clinics, dressings and blood taking. She also helps with minor operations performed by Dr Curry. Christine pointed out that even with all the changes and targets her primary concern is patient care. A truly dedicated nurse. She was thanked by Ruby Hayes.
Several members had brought in excess garden produce; runner beans, marrows, blackberries and apples were quickly sold.
Maureen Tucker gave a very detailed report of her visit to Glasgow for the N.C.M. attend by Princess Anne. Maureen attended as the guild delegate and Ann Grieve carried the Somerset Federation banner.
The meeting next year will be in Torquay. Minehead is hosting a Federation day on October 10 in the Methodist Church Hall.
The gardens group had visited a beautiful garden in Stogumber and will visit a member's garden later in the month.
The Lifestyle group will meet at Townsend House on September 25 at 7.30pm for a make-up demonstration and yoga will restart in October.
The Amblers will walk on August 29, bus from Bastins at 9.30am. Bring a picnic.
Skittles will continue with dates to be announced.

Maureen Tucker has been co-opted onto the committee to serve until the next A.G.M. Members were reminded to pay for their visit to the Houses of Parliament at the September meeting.
There will be a visit to West Point to a craft fair on September 27.
Joy Dennett had devised a herb recognition quiz, which was won by Lily Lock. Betty Potter, Brigid Plachecka, Edna Bristow and Marie Green won the raffle.
At the next meeting on September 10 at the church hall, Bancks Street, John Walker will describe Life Behind the Camera.' Visitors would be most welcome.
