THE man accused of trying to kill a 96-year-old D Day hero has appeared in person at his trial for the first time.
Joseph Isaacs, 40, of no fixed address was handcuffed and appeared in the dock at Taunton Crown Court surrounded by six security officers.

Isaacs, who was wearing a green and blue polo shirt, had previously watched proceeedings via videolink from Long Lartin Prison, in Worcestershire.
He is due to give evidence this afternoon.
The court has heard that Isaacs attacked Mr Booth with a claw hammer, causing the pensioner potentially life threatening injuries.
He has already pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent, but denies attempted murder.
He has also admitted aggravated burglary and seven counts of fraud for using or trying to use a bank card stolen from Mr Booth.
The court heard he was arrested after police stopped his car in Congresbury two days after the attack.
His mother, Kathleen Isaacs, in a written statement read to the court, said she had reported her son missing on November 14.
She said she was concerned about him as he had recently suffered a heart attack due to his heavy smoking.
The court was also told that Isaacs has three previous convictions for shoplifting.
