THE ducks taking part in the annual Porlock Duck Race will have their work cut out for them as they attempt to negotiate a whole host of new obstacles.
The traditional family day, featuring 60 yellow plastic ducks competing in 10 races plus a grand final, takes place this Sunday (May 27).
Ten new obstacles have been created by Porlock Carnival Committee, organisers of the duck race, to make the river more of a spectacle for race-goers.
The obstacles include a replica of Porlock Weir, a rabbit warren, a U-Boat, Dunster Castle and even a very scary Beast of Exmoor looming over the river.
Visitors will also get an opportunity to win a special prize in the free Name The Beast competition.
Sneak peaks of the new obstacles can be found on Porlock Carnival's Facebook page.
The event kicks off at 2pm at Sparkhayes Campsite and it costs just £2 per duck for all races, with prizes and rosettes for first, second and third place.
There will also be a bouncy castle, donkey rides, raffle, barbecue, licensed bar, tea and cakes, and ice cream as well as a 'best hat at the races' competition for adults and children. Entry to the Duck Race is free.
Porlock Duck Race raises funds for Porlock Carnival which takes place this year on Saturday September 1.
