SHOPPERS are experiencing “chaos” at the checkouts due to a technical issue facing some debit and credit cards.
Customers at the Asda supercentre, in Creechbarrow Road, are are reportedly facing difficulty when attempting to pay for their shopping by card.
Cards are being declined by stores up and down the country.
A spokesman for Asda said the issue is being experienced by all retailers but it is too early to which debit and credit cards are affected.
The spokesman said: “From initial feedback we have received it is not just us.
“There must be an issue somewhere with one of the card companies and it’s across all retailers from what we have seen.
“I don’t have specific information on the issue.”
One shopper, who did not want to give their name, said: “It is chaos at Asda, apparently all card payments are down in supermarkets.”
He said some card payments are processing as normal.
A spokesman for Morrisons, said: "We understand Visa card payments have been experiencing some technical difficulties, so it's good to know that you can continue to pay with your usual credit and debit cards at Morrisons."
Tesco are also looking the issue.
