SOMERSET residents were forced to run for cover as the heavens opened and torrential rain hit the county.
There have been showers on and off throughout the day but at 3pm today (June 1) a torrential downpour hit the county saturating shoppers.
Forecasters predict there is a 60 per cent chance heavy showers will hit the county until 6pm but say showers will ease tonight.
In their South West summary, the Met Office said: "Low cloud will spread inland across eastern areas with patchy mist and fog and it will feel humid.
"However, Cornwall and parts of Devon will see some clear skies overnight.
"Turning somewhat fresher further west. Minimum temperature 9 °C."
