A NEW survey says more than a third of people in Taunton Deane think the area is 'getting worse'.
The YouGov poll for the BBC, which surveyed more than 20,000 people across the country, asked a series of questions relating to the state of the England - and respondent's localities - as part of the organisation's The English Question project.
Those taking part were asked to complete a detailed survey on identity and belonging.
The results for Taunton Deane showed:
- 63% are proud to be English
- 50% of people think the best years are in the past - just 17% think they are in the future
- 8% of people think the local area is getting better - 39% think it's getting worse
- 77% of people think they can influence local decision not very much, or at all - 22% think they can influence decisions
