TAUNTON Samaritans has celebrated 50 years of helping people with a dinner event.
The charity saw 175 guests attend the event at Somerset County Cricket club on Saturday, June 2.
Director, Bob Cornes, made a speech to the volunteers and guests alongside BBC's Clinton Rogers.
“It was a wonderful occasion,” said Mr Cornes.
“Enabling us to pay tribute to the generations of Samaritans who have volunteered at the branch, drawn from a wide area around Taunton, Bridgwater, Ilminster and beyond.
"We were joined by three local Mayors, the Director of the Southwest Region of Samaritans, members of Taunton Rotary Club and the Wiveliscombe friends of Samaritans as well as friends and family of serving and past volunteers. No-one can be in any doubt that these volunteers make a real difference to people’s lives, providing callers with vital emotional support when life is tough.
"I am so proud of what we have achieved over the years.”
