VOLUNTEERS that help resettle refugee families are being thanked as a call for more is voiced.
Somerset County Council is thanking its volunteers who have helped the resettlement team welcome 21 families to the county since 2016.
The council's target is to help 10 families per year in the government's bid to resettle 20,000 Syrian refugees in the country.
Dr Orla Dunn, a consultant in Public Health and Resettlement Coordinator said: “The work that they do and the value that they add to the Resettlement service is incalculable. We are very grateful for what they offer to each individual and family who has been resettled here.
"National Volunteer Week, gives a chance to recognise their work and for us to say a formal thank you for all that they contribute to resettlement in Somerset.”
The resettlement service has around 100 volunteers across the county who are involved with everything from pre-arrival preparations, helping with household tasks, and language learning support.
Each family is linked with support staff and a team of volunteers who help them navigate life in the UK.
The service says it is always in need of more volunteers. To find out more about volunteering email: resettlement@somerset.gov.uk.
