THE 21st annual Taunton 10k race is set to be the biggest yet.

The maximum number of runners for the event on Sunday, September 30 has been increased by 100 to 600.

More than 400 athletes have already signed up for the run, with Gadd Homes joining current sponsors Deane DLO and Tone Leisure in backing the Taunton Carnival Committee-organised day.

Gadd's Louisa Johnson, Field Sales Manager for Firepool Lock, said: "We're pleased to be on board.

"It's a well-supported and successful local event.

"As a home-grown company, Gadd Homes recognise the relationships between communities and businesses and believe we should all be working together to promote the quality of life here."

Starting and finishing at Blackbrook Pavilion, the course covers urban and country roads through Holway and into Stoke St Mary.

The final leg returns past the golf driving range and over the motorway into Chestnut Drive.

Race Director John Lewis believes all 600 places will be gone by the closing date of Saturday, September 22.

He said: "We've had an amazing response to our mailshot.

"Enquiries and entries downloaded from the race website are much higher than last year.

"I think people are concerned they won't be able to get in - last year we had to disappoint some who left it to the last minute."
