A TAUNTON party shop is closing its doors 'for good' this weekend after trading for 18 years in the town.

Party On, High Street, says it will be closing permanently on Saturday, but a recent theft has added to the owners' problems.

Barry Spiller, the shop's financial director said: "We were closing this weekend already as a result of extremely challenging conditions on the High Street with competition online.

"Pop-up shops and competition from supermarkets around the holiday times have also made things hard.

"The break ins haven't added to our problems but it's a factor that hasn't made our life easier.

"We put the signs up as we feared we may be targeted again."

The shop's website, partyonwarhouse.com, will also cease to trade at the end of June.

The window sign.

A sign in the window states: "There is no till, no cash or valuables left here overnight at all.

"Due to theft we are closing for good this Saturday."

The shop has been in Taunton for 18 years, 12 on the High Street and six on Station Road.

Mr Spiller said it's been a difficult decision and they are thankful for their loyal customers who have support them for nearly two decades.

He said: "It's not a decision we took lightly, it's been very difficult.

"We know we aren't the only shop that is suffering.

"We want to thank our loyal customers who have supported us. We know there are lots of people that value having an independent store int he town.

"We really appreciate them."

A 25 per cent sale is currently running in preparation for the closure.
