PEOPLE living in Seaward Way area of Minehead are getting a chance to have their say about the future of their area in a special survey.

And a free community day, organised by the police and local housing associations is to be held next week.

The event will give local people a chance to air their views about community facilities in the area, and improvements that could be made.

Luisa Skinner, a police community support officer for Alcombe East, said: "We are getting a great deal of volunteer help from Seaward Way Community Group, which have organised a bouncy castle and play horse for the children, as well as a dressing-up competition and fun races.

"But while the children are playing, the adults will have a real opportunity for local residents to have their say in the future of their area."

She said the police neighbourhood beat manager, PC Steve Cutler, herself, and PCSO Rachel Cutler, together with members of Magna West Somerset, Knightstone Housing Association, Minehead town and West Somerset district councillors would be present.

The community group would be distributing leaflets to all households in the area this week, together with a survey compiled by Minehead police and the Housing Associations.

She added: "We encourage householders to complete this survey on facilities in their area, perception of anti-social behaviour and use of the multi-sports games area in Sandpiper Close.

"These are all issues close to their hearts, and should prompt plenty of comment."

She said surveys could be returned on the day, or to Magna, Knightstone, or Minehead police station, by the end of August.

"All replies will be anonymous, unless residents wish otherwise," she said.

The community will take place on Friday, August 31, in Plover Close between 4pm-7pm.
