A QUICK-thinking teenager and a piece of luck saved a Wellington family's home from being burnt down.

Former town council Pete Watkin and his wife, Julie, moved back into their High Street house today (Wednesday) after the weekend blaze.

They were out when the fire started at about 3pm on Saturday, but their son, Miles, 14, raised the alarm.

Mrs Watkin said: "Pete and I were in my shop, Heart and Craft, a couple of minutes away, when Miles came running in to tell us.

"He heard a bang from the computer in the back bedroom, which Pete uses as his study.

"We rang the fire brigade and they were here really quickly as they were returning from another incident.

"In the circumstances, we were quite lucky - if they hadn't got here when they did, it could have been a lot worse."

The room where the fire started was gutted, while two other bedrooms, the bathroom and attic rooms were badly smoke damaged.
