COMMUNITY groups and local organisations across West Somerset are being urged to support a diary to avoid local events clashing.

West Somerset Council is writing to event organisers, parish councils, and local voluntary groups to ask for help in its campaign to co-ordinate the district's events.

Cllr Simon Stokes, responsible for communications, said: ""There have been instances of local events clashing on the same date which is a shame because of the negative effect on attendance.

"A lot of work goes into staging events, and, as well as being great for raising community spirits, they're popular with tourists.

"If people register the name and date of the event with us, we'll update the council's event diary, and also liase with partners to update the Exmoor Events website.

"If everyone does this, event organisers will be able to check that their event doesn't clash with a neighbouring event.

"It will bring a co-ordinated approach to events across West Somerset so that everyone attracts the maximum amount of visitors to make the events more successful."

If you would like to submit details of your event, contact the council's events administrator, Sarah Wilsher, on 01643 703704, email swilsher@westsomerset.gov.uk or use the council's alert us of an event' service online by clicking the link below.
