KING'S College, Taunton, is once again celebrating an excellent year of GCSE results, with one inf four A* grades and 51% at A* and A grades.

Local pupils Harriet Clarke, Charles Close, Zoe Round, Millie Smyth and Alex Thorne were among seven with A*s in every subject, while 17 pupils achieved all A* or A grades.

All Latin and Greek candidates achieved As or better, while three-quarters of music and design technology results were As or A*s.

New Headmaster Richard Biggs said: "These excellent GCSE results are a tribute to the hard work of our pupils and to the dedication and support provided by our staff.

"I have spent a very enjoyable morning meeting pupils who are delighted with their results and are looking forward to the challenges of Sixth Form life here at King's.

"The seven straight-A* candidates should be congratulated on their remarkable achievements, but there are examples of outstanding effort at all levels.

"Just as impressive are those pupils who managed, through sheer hard work, to turn Bs into As, or Cs into Bs.

"Our aim is to ensure that pupils fulfil their potential in every field.

"At King's we perform at a high level academically while offering a wide range of other experiences to our boys and girls.

"We do a lot of different things very well indeed: with the right structures, facilities and staff it is quite possible to have both breadth and excellence.

"I am very excited about leading this wonderful school and can't wait for the new term to start."
