A FOOD extravaganza is expected to attract thousands of visitors to Wellington, putting the town firmly on the map as a premier food destination.
The Wellington Food Festival, held over the weekend of September 8/9 will showcase over 60 food and drink producers from around the town and beyond, while retailers, cooks, cafés and restaurants in the town are laying on all kinds of special activities and exciting events.
Saturday will see the town's High Street closed to traffic from 10am-6pm with a huge variety of stalls featuring local produce from cakes and cheeses to sausages and cider, as well as live bands, entertainment and a sausage trail culminating in the judging of Wellington's finest sausage.
A special hog roast and barbecue all with locally produced food, a food quiz with a giant hamper prize, apple juicing and children's activities, a beer and curry night.
The Fabulous Food Tent will be set up where local chefs and food experts will demonstrate their arts.
Sunday will see events including a jazz brunch, tractor rides, a brewery tour, Sunday lunches and cream teas, food tasting, open days and exhibitions.
The Food Fair and Festival is the second event being held under the Wellington Food Town umbrella, after an estimated 5,000 people attended the hugely successful launch last December.
The event has been organised by Wellington Economic Partnership, Taunton Deane Borough Council and Wellington Town Council, and is supported by Somerset Food Links, Wellington Chamber of Commerce and Trade and Wellington Farmers' Market.
