A MAJOR exhibition on the works of six Cornish artists is to be held at the John Leach Gallery in Muchelney, near Langport.

The exhibition has been put together by John Leach and David Walker of Walker Galleries and will feature work by six of the most exciting artists working in Cornwall today.

John Emanuel has been painting since 1963 and has had a number of solo exhibitions throughout the country, David Beer taught in Penzance for a time but now devotes himself to painting. His preferred medium is oils, which he applied with a palette knife.

Anthony Frost gained an honours degree in Fine Art from Cardiff College of Art in 1973.

Dominated by triangular attacks of blue, red and yellow, his large paintings are often stitched, tied and taped together as conventional canvas is combined with sailcloth, hessian and rope.

Terry Whybrow was born in London and settled in Cornwall 20 years ago, where all his previous ideas and influences were overshadowed by the strength and textures of Cornwall.

Born in Mousehole, Cornwall, Peter Perry works in oil and has been exhibiting his work since 1998 in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Cornwall and London.

And finally Alan Furneaux attended Reigate School of Art for two years. He rigorously studied the work of Matisse, Klee, Picasso and Cezanne and, in particular, that of Patrick Heron, Terry Frost and Ivon Hitchens to arrive at his own unique style.

He has exhibited widely in London and now draws his inspiration from the West Country where he lives and works from his studio in Penzance, Cornwall.
