A BURGLAR who targeted an office and a parked van in Norton Fitzwarren has been given three months to prove he has changed his ways.

Sheldon Turner was trapped after police found blood on glass from a broken window at the scene that matched his DNA, Taunton Crown Court was told.

Turner, 19, of Blenheim Road, Bridgwater, who was living in a hostel at the time, said he went into the building on a business park after finding the window already smashed.

He told police he had found a CD player and other stolen items which they discovered at his home.

Patrick Mason, defending, said there were other people in the hostel who were more experienced than him and "he followed them in".

He did not drink or take drugs and was now trying to keep out of trouble and avoiding people who might lead him astray.

Turner, who pleaded guilty to burglary with intent to steal, had his sentence deferred for three months to see if he could keep out of trouble.

Judge Stephen O'Malley said he took comfort from a pre-sentence report that said his behaviour was improving.

He added "Some people grow out of offending behaviour as they become more mature, and I hope that may well be happening to you."

If he avoided trouble for the next three months, he would probably receive a community sentence, said the judge.
