WELLINGTON town centre is set to receive six new CCTV cameras following a request from the town council.
There have been some doubts over the effectiveness of the existing six cameras in the town and calls from councillors have now ensured that they will be updated with the most up-to-date system.
It is expected that the new cameras will be in place in about two weeks, joining the two existing town council-owned re-locatable cameras.
Chairman of the council Dave Mitton told the County Gazette: "It's very good news that the cameras, which we have had doubts about the quality of, are now being introduced to the town.
"It will greatly improve the potential to identify people undertaking criminal activities.
"In Wellington we very much welcome it, we have been pushing for this for some time with contribution from Taunton Deane Council.
"This is a vital contribution to reducing unruly behaviour and crime in Wellington."
