Some August walks.
SUMMER arrived at last and members of The Somerset Walking Club were happy to be out in the country on their recent walks. Evan Lewis offered one of the club's short walks on a glorious evening, circling from Trull over Cotlake Hill to admire the wide views over Taunton Vale and on to Poundisford and back. Norman Newcombe took members to Langport for a seven-mile ramble across the fields to Drayton, returning along the riverside Parrett Trail. The wide cloudscape in this flat area enhanced the scene. There was a chilly wind by the next weekend for Annabel Campbell's 12-mile walk from Kilve, over the heather and gorse clad Quantocks and back on the scenic coast path. Members appreciated the hot tea at the home of one of the walkers.
Ilminster was chosen by Margaret Palmer for the start of a 7 mile walk. After meeting in the old town the party climbed the old packhorse road to Ashwell then followed the banks of the River Isle to Donyatt. A climb over Herne Hill, crossing the remains of the old Chard Canal ended a pleasant afternoon. All walkers are welcome on the club's weekly walks. Details are at the libraries or may be obtained from the secretary, telephone 01823 326249.
