THIS week in 1999 saw the unveiling of the winning design for a new landmark sculpture in Minehead.
Teenager Sarah Ward, an A Level student at West Somerset Community College, won a competition to design the piece with her idea of a pair of hands holding a map to mark the start of the 613-mile South West Coast Path.
The 16-year-old was thrilled to win, receiving a £100 prize for her efforts.
"I was very surprised to win," she said. "It's certainly good for me as I hope to go into the design business."
The sculpture was mounted at Quay Street Green in the town and remains a landmark 20 years later.
