THE Government is forking up DOUBLE what one of its MPs thought was going to build a spine road to serve a massive housing development on the edge of Taunton.
An announcement this week confirmed that £14.216 million will go on the road in Staplegrove, where 1,628 homes are to go up.
Taunton Deane MP Rebecca Pow yesterday (Wednesday) confirmed the Government was footing the bill, claiming her pressure on Housing Ministers had led to a £7.2 million grant.
But the previous day the Government had issued a statement saying it was coughing up twice as much for the scheme.
