WI: At a meeting on Friday, October 5, at the Community Centre, Mr George Reekie gave a talk with slides entitled In Search of the Bengal Tiger. He introduced himself as a serious amateur photographer. However, his superb photographs proved him worthy of professional status.
He told of the trip to India in 2006 that took him on an 18-hour train journey from Delhi to the Bandagar Game Reserve. On the way he visited the Taj Mahal, taking excellent shots of the world famous palace. He also visited the Amber Fort at Jaipur and recorded wonderful memories of the fabulously decorated elephants which transport visitors up to the fort which literally glows in the late afternoon sunshine.
During his journey he hung precariously from the train in order to record the sights of rural India. Various beasts of burden transporting precarious loads, bicycles and buses loaded to the gunnels with passengers, women carrying enormous bundles on their heads, laughing children and of course beautiful young women dressed in saris in all colours of the rainbow.
Then came the best of all - wonderful photographs of the tigers in the game reserve. Their beauty and magnificence quite awe inspiring.
All too soon the talk came to an end. The members warmly applauded and agreed over tea and coffee that it had been a memorable evening and that Mr Reekie's delivery combining information and humour was truly excellent.
