THE food world is in shock after the sudden death of chef, Gary Rhodes.
Mr Rhodes, an OBE recipient, passed away yesterday (November 26) at the age of 59.
The renowned celebrity chef made his name at Taunton's Castle Hotel.
Reacting to the news Castle Hotel proprietor, Kit Chapman, said: "It is with a profound sense of loss that I hear the sad news of the death of Gary Rhodes.
"In the late 80s he made (The Castle) famous by reviving the fortunes of the English culinary repertoire.
"A truly great British chef is gone.
"Deepest condolences to Jennie and the family."
In a statement, Mr Rhodes' family said: "The Rhodes family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of beloved husband, father and brother, Gary Rhodes OBE.
"Gary passed away last evening, Tuesday 26th November 2019, at the age of 59, with his beloved wife Jennie by his side.
"The family would like to thank everyone for their support and ask for privacy during this time."
