DAVID Last was the guest artist at the Taunton and Wellington Keyboard Club concert on October 25. His equipment - a Tyros 2, Yamaha keyboard was supplemented by a Roland G70, second keyboard. This in turn was added to by the use of a pedal board fed through a separate sound module, and on to the main amplifier which serviced all three units. The quality of sound throughout the evening was impressive with good variation in the styles played and with pleasing chord changes rhythm variation. Early on in his programme David played his signature tune - the Glen Miller orchestra classic At Last.' and this demonstrated the full big band sound with excellent brass and wood wind sounds so familiar to us all. Another excellent item was the famous Root Beer Rag' played on the piano register and although this required considerable velocity and dexterity - David was more than able to cope.
The repertoire included most of the musical genres Classical, Opera, Standards, Blues, and old numbers from the Eddie Calvert era. David's relationship with the audience was somewhat deadpan and this was a pity considering his evident talent and musicianship. Chairman Graham Pope gave a vote of thanks supported by all.
