PROPOSALS have been revealed to turn a former Taunton town centre pub premises into a shop along with ten apartments.
Local firm Cerc Properties has applied for change of use permission for the project at the former Henrys, in High Street
The front of the three-storey building would not be altered, but there would be an extension and alterations to other parts of the building if the scheme goes ahead.
Henrys closed in February of last year after Bob and Annie Watson, who had run the pub for 33 years, were bankrupted.
The official receivers phoned Mr Watson during business hours and ordered him to tell customers to drink up and leave immediately.
An application to planners at Somerset West and Taunton Council says: "Unfortunately, the public house became unviable and ultimately insolvent, despite receiving high customer reviews and the efforts of the former landlord.
"The demise of public houses was attributed to a lack of footfall and patronage.
"The public house was forced to close its door after 33 years of trading, as reported in the Somerset County Gazette."
