A PRIMARY school in Wellington has given their harvest festival donations to families in need this year.
Potters Pounds, organised by Tim Potters Butchers, helps families facing food poverty to access meat and vegetable boxes to help during the coronavirus crisis.
And Wellesley Park Primary School decided they wanted to help.
Carly Wilkins, headteacher at the school, said: “Tim and his team have been helping our families with food costs for the last few months.
“It is great to be able to use the kind donations received, from our Harvest Festival, for the benefit of other families across Wellington, who are struggling with food costs due to the impact of Covid-19.”
Thanks to the donations, Mr Potter will be able to distribute 20 boxes next week to families in need.
“This Thursday will see 20 food parcels made from the wealth of lovely produce received from the parents of Wellesley Park Primary, enriched with locally sourced, fresh meat and sausages from Tim Potter Family Butchers to make for the production of nutritious meals,” said Mrs Wilkins.
“To be able to help as a school in any way, at this difficult time, is a wonderful thing.
“The children have made a lovely poster to thank Tim for his work with our school and all other schools across Wellington.”
The Potters Pounds scheme has been running for eight months and is funded by Mr Potter’s customers, Wellington Town Council, Local Churches and community organisations.
Each week, schools will submit a list of families who should receive the boxes.
Mr Potter works with schools and community organisations across Wellington to identify families facing food poverty.
“It’s lovely to see one of our schools contributing to the scheme,” Mr Potter said.
“I will display the children’s wonderful poster in the shop with pride. We are very low on funds now, so this will tide us over until more money comes in.
“It is imperative that the scheme continues and as demand for the food boxes continues to climb.
“I would like to sincerely thank Wellesley Park School for this fantastic contribution and congratulate them on giving back to the community.”
The scheme has raised nearly £7,000 and Tim Potters Butchers are still looking for donations, so they can continue to deliver boxes.
