STAFF at a Taunton firm were given the opportunity to say their farewells to their former boss ahead of his funeral today (Friday).
The hearse taking John Meikle's coffin to the funeral at Staplegrove Church stopped off at Hickleys this morning ahead of the service.
Staff stopped work to pay tribute to Mr Meikle, a local councillor for 58 years as well as a prominent businessman in the town.
They broke into applause at one stage as the hearse left for the service, which was conducted under Covid-19 rules.
Mr Meikle, who won the MBE for services to local government, served as Taunton Mayor and leader of the former Taunton Deane Borough Council.
