Taunton posties raise money for Arc and Canonsgrove

Their efforts raised £2,695 in funds, which were split between Lindley House, run by Arc, and the Canonsgrove Project, run by YMCA Dulverton.

The money was given to the charities on December 23, so they could use it to spread some Christmas cheer.

"Arc would like to say a huge thank you to the Taunton Posties for not only spreading Christmas joy across the town but for raising such an incredible amount for the homeless, and during such difficult times too," said a spokesperson for Arc.

"We were delighted to receive their generous donation on Christmas Eve - a wonderful Christmas gift.

"We were able to put some of the donated funds towards creating a happy Christmas for our clients, who often find this time of the year difficult.

"The rest will help significantly as the winter months continue."

Pat Collins, manager at Canonsgrove, thanked the posties for their hard work.

“On behalf of our team and our residents, we would like to say a big thank you," she said.

"It was such a lovely surprise to receive such a wonderful donation from the local posties.

"The money allowed us to purchase Christmas presents for residents, as well as art materials and additional equipment supplies, for our weekly support sessions.

"Our residents are so grateful to be supported by the local community and really do appreciate the kindness shown.”

Postie Evette Chapman, who has been organising the fun initiative, said it was "heart-warming" to be able to help out this Christmas.

Royal Mail were also asked to help a mother and her two children who have had a difficult time this Christmas.

So Ms Chapman contacted Christmas Sparkle who provided presents, The Salvation Army who gave a dry food hamper and gifts, the co-op who gave extra food and staff at Royal Mail, who brought extra gifts and food for the festive season.

"I can't tell you how good I feel when I get to help others, it gives me such pride and warm feeling inside and most of all makes me smile," Ms Chapman said.

"Thank you to my boss and work colleagues for supporting me in helping others cause I couldn't of done this without you."

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, Royal Mail posties in Taunton have raised £8,250 for the community.

"I'd just like to say a massive thank you to all our customers that have donated during the year," added Ms Chapman.

"They have been so generous.

"We have really enjoyed making so many people smile while raising such a massive amount for charity.

"Thank you to all my work colleagues for joining in with me and our manager Dan for allowing us to do this - I'm just so grateful to everyone for their help."
