WORKERS battled through adverse weather to repair a busy main road that was cracking up.
The A358 just before Eastcombe, near Combe Florey, has re-opened this week following a two-week closure to allow the work to be carried out.
The work was needed as cracks had begun to appear in the road surface after the highway verge between the road and the embankment had collapsed into a stream.
The repair team cleared vegetation and trees near the stream that had caused it to flow into the embankment. The normal flow has been restored to halt the damage.
An excavator was used to carry out "significant clearance" and wire cages containing rocks - known as gabion baskets - were installed to secure the embankment.
Diversions were in place during the scheme just outside Bishops Lydeard.
A Somerset Travel spokesperson said: "During challenging times, our highways team battled through the bad weather last week to get the job done."
