TWO sculptures honouring the work of NHS employees during the pandemic was mistakenly removed by council staff who mistook it for flytipping.
The metal silhouettes of a nurse holding a heart and a key with the words 'thank you' had been installed on a roundabout in Radstock.
The local council had granted permission for the artwork, made by Martin Feeney, a former Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineer and a member of Radstock in Bloom, to be sited there.
But council workers clearing rubbish from the roundabout also removed the sculptures.
The council has admitted that the workers "took the sculptures away too in error".
But one of the workers decided to take the sculptures home, where they were kept until they could be restored to their rightful position on the roundabout.
A Radstock in Bloom tweet said: "They aren't worth a lot in scrap, but represent a great deal and have lived there for almost a year."
