PARTS of a main road in Glastonbury will be closed for more than a week due to safety improvement works.
Construction work starts on Monday (March 15) on A361 Chilkwell Street and Bere Lane.
Somerset County Council’s (SCC) Minor Improvements Team will be improving the footway and a pedestrian refuge crossing, as well as sign improvements.
The work is due to be completed by April 1, and part of Chilkwell Street will need to be closed throughout. There will also be two-way temporary traffic signals in place at the junction and a diversion will be in place.
“This is a really important piece of work for Glastonbury, requested by local Councillors through the Council’s Small Improvement Schemes programme,” said Cllr John Woodman, SCC cabinet member for highways and transport.
“Local people and regular visitors will know this is a busy junction which can be difficult to negotiate for all road users – particularly pedestrians.
“We’re aware there will be disruption and our team will be doing their best to minimise this in every way possible.”
