A TAUNTON mum-of-two brought a chuckle to the faces of online quizzers when she posed the questions dressed as a snarling teenager.
Quizmaster Claire Ayshford Smy has been hosting a charity quiz night since the first lockdown.
And she surprises contestants by putting on a different outfit each time at the weekly event, which reaches its anniversary on March 26.
Many of the 70 quiz enthusiasts have been joining in the fun by donning costumes themselves - and raising more than £2,000 so far for the ME Association, which supports people with the energy sapping illness myalgic encephalomyelitis.
Claire, who taught English before she became ill, said: "I’ve been running the quizzes weekly from home.
"We get between 25 and 30 teams turning up for each quiz - that’s up to 70 people a time."
Claire, who dressed up as a rebellious teenager to mark this month's return to school added: "It started off just for friends and family and then it just took off.
"It’s not unusual for friends of friends to turn up – people I’ve never met before.
"But what’s taken me completely by surprise is that people keep coming back and donating to the charity."
Claire has been living with ME for more than three years and is unable to work or carry out everyday tasks.
She said: "I put on a brave face for the quizzes but need to rest up before every one to find the energy for it.
"It takes a lot out of me but it’s so worthwhile. It makes me feel alive and buzzing for a little while each week"
ME Association fundraiser Tony Britton said: "This quiz night is the gift that keeps on giving. We’re delighted to have Claire’s continuing support."
A spin off is that the partner of one of Claire’s friends has been inspired to cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats for the charity in May.
Jason Bowie, from Wellington, hopes to complete the marathon ride in 12 days next month with his brother Jess.
