COLLEAGUES are rallying round a police officer who was diagnosed with cancer the day after her wedding.

Taunton-based PC Corinne, who is married to fellow officer Avon and Somerset officer Pete, was given the devastating news when she should have been planning the couple's honeymoon.

Instead she was told the lump she had found in her breast was cancer.

A colleague, Nikki Mustard, said: "Corinne being Corinne came to work that afternoon as we were on duty from 2.30pm.

"She didn't utter a word to any of us and continued to be the professional, courageous, strong woman, mother, wife and officer she is.

"Did Corinne moan? No in fact she continued to work until the week before her operation.

"She was attending domestics, assaults, being verbally abused yet still being her professional self with the same level of pride and care she shows daily."

"She worked right up to New Year, when she had no option but to self isolate in preparation for her operation in January 2021."

The prognosis looked good, but while on the operating table, doctors discovered the disease was more aggressive than initially believed.

Corinne, who has three children aged 21, 11 and eight, had 11 cancerous lymph nodes removed.

Police colleagues are pulling out all the stops to raise money to help Corinne, a police officer for nine years, pay her bills and cover the costs of trips to hospital and childcare.

They hope to raise £6,500 in sponsorship with events including a 41-mile row on April 17 and a 24-hour treadmill run at Taunton Police Station.

Nikki said: "For nine years she's served the people and now we need the people to serve her.

"Times are hard but I have faith in humanity."
