THE Covid-19 pandemic continued its downward trend in Somerset over the weekend.
There were just 55 positive tests for the virus in the latest 48-hour period.
Of those, 23 were in South Somerset, where there have now been 5,230 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic.
Somerset West and Taunton saw four new confirmed cases for an overall total of 5,870 positive tests.
Sedgemoor had 22 positive tests (overall 5,188).
And Wells saw six new confirmed cases at the weekend (total 3,376).
The district infection rates based on the latest seven-day rolling figures are now South Somerset 50.5 people per 100,000 of population (down from 53.5 the previous day); SWT 23.9 (down from 24.5); Sedgemoor 42.2 (up from 39); and Mendip 19.9 (down from 33.7).
There were no Covid-related deaths reported in the county council area over the weekend.
The total number of deaths from any cause of people within 28 days of a positive Covid test remain at 149 in South Somerset; 201 in SWT; 154 in Sedgemoor; and 161 in Mendip.
