A MAN had a lucky escape after his caravan was completely destroyed in a fire during the early hours of this morning (March 24).
Fire crews attended the incident on Taunton Road in North Petherton at around 2am.
They had multiple calls stating the man was still inside.
But by 2.16am, he was out of the caravan and being treated by the ambulance crew as he was suffering from burns to his arms and legs.
Two fire engines and a water carrier from Bridgwater, two engines from Taunton and an operational assurance officer battled the fire until 3am.
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "At 2.16am crews reported one static caravan well alight with all persons accounted for.
"Crews were at work with four breathing apparatus wearers, two hose reel jets and one main jet.
"Ambulance were also on scene treating one male suffering from burns to arms and legs.
"At 2.35pm, crews were still at work with four breathing apparatus wearers, two hose reel jets and one main jet.
"A neighbouring caravan had also been damaged by heat.
"At 3.01am, the fire was out.
"The fire caused 100 per cent damage to the caravan which measured 10m x 3m.
"The second caravan sustained 20 per cent heat damage.
"The cause of the fire was believed to be accidental."
