COLLEAGUES have paid tribute to a long-serving firefighter who retired this week.
Kev Squire hung up his hose for the last time on Wednesday after 36 years' service at Somerton Fire Station.
He joined on January 24 1985 and colleagues say they will miss his "professionalism and commitment".
In a Facebook post they said: "Kev will be missed by everyone at Somerton Fire Station and across the service.
"His dedication, experience and knowhow was second to none and will be a big hole to fill.
"Kev has been serving our community with professionalism and commitment in all this time whilst working at Overt Locke and we would like to thank them for allowing Kev to respond to incidents over the years and providing vital operational cover.
"We would also like to thank Kev's wife Sue, daughters Katie, Jemma and families as without their commitment and dedication Kev would often drop/change family plans at short notice to dash off at the sound of his alerter.
"Unfortunately due to Covid-19 restrictions we can't give Kev the send off he deserves and we will be having formal presentations when restrictions are lifted."
