A HOLE in a pavement in a Taunton street has been filled in - after a year-long wait.
Workers this week finally repaired the section of footway in Eastwick Road's junction with Cheddon Road.
The hole had been left after a diseased tree was removed in March last year.
But the stump and the roots had become entangled in a high voltage cable and a gas supply pipe, making it tricky to remove.
The stretch of pavement was fenced off over the ensuing 12 months.
A closure notice was in force this week as workers finished the job.
A Somerset County Council spokesperson earlier this week said: “We’re pleased to be in a position to finally resolve what has been a very challenging and potentially hazardous problem and are grateful to residents for their patience in this matter.
“Because the roots of the tree had become so entangled in both the high voltage cable and gas supply pipe, the removal operation has posed some unique challenges to our team and has required considerable planning to ensure the safety of the workforce and public."
