A YOUNG man has died following a crash at an accident blackspot near Wellington.

It is believed the vehicle hit a tree on the A38 at Beam Bridge.

The victim is in his 30s. His next of kin have been informed.

It is believed the collision at about 6.20pm yesterday (Sunday, March 28) involved a single car.

The road is currently closed and is likely to remain so for a few more hours.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: "We’re asking for witnesses or motorists with dashcam footage to get in contact after a fatal road traffic collision on the A38 near Wellington.

"A approximately 6.20pm yesterday (Sunday 28 March), we were called to Beambridge following reports a vehicle had been involved in a collision.

"Te driver, a man in his 30s, has sadly died. His next of kin have been informed.

"The road is currently closed and is expected to remain so for a few more hours and would ask drivers to find an alternative route.

"Anone who can assist with our enquiries is asked to call 101 and give reference number."

A person who lives locally, who asked not to be identified, said: "There have been so many accidents on this stretch of the road between the Beam Bridge and the hill.

"They need to make some changes to the road.

"There have been ongoing concerns about this stretch of road for some time.

"They started a petition last year, but nothing came of it. Maybe now something will be done."

Social media has been flooded with comments, with people expressing their condolences to the family of the dead man.

There are also dozens of comments about the number of crashes on the stretch of road near the Beam Bridge Inn.
