THE oldest building on the campus of a Somerset college is to be replaced thanks to government funding.

Strode College is to receive Further Education Capital Transformation Fund cash to redevelop the 1960s A Block and incorporate new facilities.

Somerset County Gazette:

The project at the Street college will include a new main entrance leading to a front of house training restaurant, commercial hair and beauty salons and reception area for Strode Theatre.

It will also accommodate creative arts space linking to the theatre, a student hub and collaborative learning space with easy access to student services, and a large learning resource centre zoned for various independent learning activities.

Work is being carried out on a 2020-2025 college-wide property vision for development of the curriculum and campus, considering existing and future needs.

The vision will ensure all students are taught in high quality, modern, industry standard facilities integrating sustainable and carbon reducing technologies.

Earlier in 2020 Strode College received funding from the government’s T Level Capital Fund.

An initial £1million supported the development of a specialist centre for digital and media technology incorporating brand new, state of the art radio and TV studios, a mixing suite, IT studios and childcare learning facilities.

A further £650,000 was received to build a stunning new, state of the art mock hospital ward, complete with birthing room, nursing station and dispensary, and a new, purpose-built professional laboratory for the health and science T level launching this September. An investment bid has also been submitted for the next phase of T levels.

"This will allow our students to have amazing opportunities to access high quality, modern facilities to support their learning and successful career development at Strode.

"We are looking forward to working with the DfE on this very exciting project.”
