A PLAN which would see part of the Glastonbury Festival site opened as a 'family-friendly' campsite this summer has been given the go-ahead.
Last month, organisers of the event, held at Worthy Farm in Pilton, applied to Mendip District Council for permission to open up more than 82 hectares of the site to campers.
The application said it would see the land open for up to 56 days in 2021 and for up to 28 days in subsequent years.
Now, the council has deemed the scheme 'lawful', meaning it is allowed under current planning rules.
The application came after the 2021 festival was called off - the second year running the event has not gone ahead, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
