A RANGE of retirement apartments in Taunton will be available to view and purchase on a shared-ownership basis at an open week event next month.
The public will be invited to take a closer look at the new Quantock House development, in Paul Street, for the first time during a special event running from Monday, May 17 to Sunday, May 23.
It will be the first opportunity that members of the public have to select the apartment that they would like to reserve off-plan on a first-come, first-served basis.
Places must be booked in advance.
The eight-storey luxury apartment complex in the town centre features purpose-built one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments with balconies, which are available to people aged 55 and over.
Construction on the ‘low-maintenance’ properties at Quantock House is set to be completed by October, with prices starting from £117,500, based on the buyer paying 50% of the property’s full market value. The homes at Quantock House are made affordable as part of a government-backed shared ownership scheme delivered in partnership with Homes England.
Commonly known as part-buy, part-rent, shared-ownership homes enable people to move and potentially downsize from their existing home which may no longer be suitable for their needs while freeing up money from the sale of the property to use on other life events.
Mike Lyons, Operations Director of developer Platinum Skies, said: “As the government lockdown restrictions ease, we have a long list of people who are looking to move into Quantock House.
“They have told us that they have been stuck in their family home which is too big for just themselves and they are looking to take the next step towards a more independent, financially-secure future.
“The Platinum Skies team are specialists at enabling people aged 55 and over to live happy, active and healthy lives in a friendly community where they can feel supported by their neighbours.”
Homeowners at Quantock House will be able to use a range of communal facilities including enjoying a meal in the bistro, a drink in the bar area, and the opportunity to socialise with their neighbours in the residents’ lounges.
They can also take part in a range of classes in the activity room and enjoy some pampering in the treatment room.
Pets are welcome at all Platinum Skies properties, which also feature plenty of space for family and friends to stay and visit.
All Platinum Skies homes have a dedicated onsite Community Manager who helps to build a dynamic community among homeowners and organise fun activities such as chocolate tasting workshops, cheese and wine evenings, themed bistro meals, yoga, quizzes, and crafts.
The Community Managers also offer practical and emotional support to the residents.
A part-exchange scheme is available for all Platinum Skies properties, which enables the homeowners to move into their new home before the old one has been listed for sale, as well as guaranteeing that the homeowners will receive the full market value for their old property.
