CROWDS flocked the streets of a Somerset town this weekend for a 'Words & Music' event.
Porlock High Street was alive with music on Saturday (June 5) for their latest event aimed at bringing people to the town.
“It was fantastic to see Porlock High Street come alive with people who enjoyed the music and words in unexpected places,” said Sarah Shorten, events co-ordinator for the Porlock High Street Support Group.
“Like at our first pop-up four weeks ago, many locals and visitors came out to rediscover and celebrate our High Street.
“People were smiling and chatting, trying out new things, and - most importantly - happily supported our independent traders on the High Street."
Bettina Walker and her dog Dylan performed in the church, Lorna Doone was read outside the library and author Jeff Cox spoke about his latest book - featuring Porlock in the Second World War.
At the event, £150 was raised for Porlock Toddler Group to buy musical instruments, and one of the bookstalls raised £80 for the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance.
Len Shorten, 12, aka “Mr BookyWooky”, raised £100 for Alzheimer’s sufferers, and will join forces with Bettina Walker who, with the help of this money, will be able to sing in care homes locally.
The next event, funding by Somerset West and Taunton Council and organised by Porlock High Street Support Group, will be at the beginning of August, with a family and circus theme.
