A COMMUNITY farm could be built as part of the Green Corridor project in Wellington.
Wellington Community Food, who are organising the project, has said they have the potential to develop the farm on around 20 acres of land.

A spokesperson for the group said: “The farm will strengthen the food culture in the town, provide opportunities for volunteering and employment and provide an educational resource for local schools and youth groups.
"It will also be a safe space for families to enjoy and participate in food production and learn about the health and environmental benefits of fresh food grown with nature.”
The group are looking to recruit members to form a Community Benefit Society, as well as develop the membership so people can invest in the social objectives of the farm.
They are also trying to identify the size of the market who would want to use the produce. They are looking to hear from anyone who would be interested in:
- Buying a weekly veg box as a produce share member, i.e. a monthly subscription
- Buying a box and paying for a veg box on a weekly basis
- Purchasing wholesale. If you are a food business in the local area interested in buying from the farm, they would love to hear from you
"If you or someone you know might be interested in getting involved in the project as a grower, administrator, education co-ordinator or volunteer we are looking to bring as many skills from the community into the project," added the spokesperson.
"We would also like to hear from any local community groups and schools about how you might like to get involved and what we can do to make sure we provide a valuable education asset for you."
At the moment, Wellington Community Food are working on an initial business plan for the farm.
If you are interested in membership, or becoming part of the farm as a volunteer, email wellingtoncommunityfood@gmail.com.
