WHEN Elly Laurance's dad passed away earlier this year, one charity stepped in to help when they needed it the most.
St Margaret's Hospice provided 24 hour support, seven days a week, during the end of Elly's dads life - and she decided she wanted to give back.
And so, next month, she has decided to face her fear of heights and complete a skydive to raise money for the charity.
"Our family have had a hard time this year, with multiple family members facing the fight with all different types of cancer," said the 39-year-old from Chard.
"We sadly lost my dad in February this year at the age of 65 and are completely heartbroken and my aunty lost her fight just a few weeks ago.
"Other family members continue their battles.
"It made me reflect on how short life is and how the charities that have supported us must have really struggled through the recent Covid crisis and yet continued to be there for us."
Elly's grandmother also spent the last part of her life supported by the hospice.
"When it comes to end of life, the time can be very challenging to the person directly affected but also the family and friends," she added.
"It is stressful and often full of unknowns and situations that people are not familiar with.
"With the support of the hospice nurses, it can make those things easier to deal with so that people can focus on having the time they need with their loved ones."
Elly is hoping to raise as much as possible, and is incredibly thankful for the support she has received already. So far, she has raised £375.
St Margaret's Hospice has said they are 'so grateful' to Elly for taking part in the challenge.
"We’re hoping for clear skies for her on Friday, October 1 and wish her all the best for her thrill-seeking challenge," said Ellie Weston, marketing and events officer at St Margaret’s Hospice Care.
"Without the generosity of supporters like Elly we simply wouldn’t be able to continue to provide our services to patients with a life-limiting illness and their families when they really need us.
"Please donate to her JustGiving page if you can."
Elly is planning to jump on October 1 2021 from 15,000 feet.
