A MAN from Yatton has been fined £220 for travelling on a railway without paying a fare.
Bristol Magistrates’ Court heard yesterday that Steven Penny, of Mendip Road, was caught at Bristol Temple Meads station without paying - or intending to pay - his fare of £64.20.
Penny, 49, committed the offence on a Great Western Railway service on Tuesday, May 18.
He was fined £220 and ordered to pay compensation of £64.20 – the same amount as the fare he failed to pay.
The case was proved in absence, and he must also pay a surcharge of £34 to fund victim services and costs of £180.
Penny has until Monday, November 29 to pay a total of £498.20.
